Assistant Chief of Police Robert "Bobby" Byrd

Assistant Chief of Police Robert Byrd began his law enforcement career with the Duncanville Police Department in 2017. Throughout his career, he has served in a variety of assignments including Patrol Officer, Field Training Officer, Training and Personnel Background Investigator, Detective, SWAT Member, and SWAT Team Leader. He was promoted to Sergeant in 2022, advanced to Lieutenant in 2024, and was appointed Assistant Chief of Police on March 8, 2026.

Assistant Chief Byrd is a graduate of the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy and the Leadership Development Program through the Caruth Police Institute. He is also certified as a Public Information Officer and has completed SWAT Command and Leadership training through the National Tactical Officers Association.

Assistant Chief Byrd brings a diverse leadership background and extensive operational experience. He has directed major incidents, coordinated multi-agency responses, and developed operational plans for large-scale events and high-risk tactical operations. He is known for a disciplined leadership style that emphasizes accountability, operational readiness, data-driven performance management, and strong community engagement.

Throughout his career, Assistant Chief Byrd has been recognized for exceptional service with numerous commendations, including Duncanville Officer of the Year in 2020 and Supervisor of the Year in 2022, along with multiple lifesaving and meritorious conduct awards.

Assistant Chief Byrd currently commands the Operations Division of the Duncanville Police Department.
