  • There is hereby created the Multicultural Commission to be an advisory committee created to provide the community citizen participation and engagement
  • That the Multicultural Commission will be created for the purpose of establishing a partnership with the community to have the most engaged citizenry in America; developing an image as a family-oriented community locally and regionally; developing a brand for the community focusing on the goal creating a sustainable multicultural community to enhance sports, tourism and community cooperation and developing ways to encourage all citizens to become more engaged in Duncanville; promote citizen participation and engagement in government; and to foster cooperative relationships among citizens in order to fulfill the needs and desires of Duncanville's diverse community.
  • That the Multicultural Commission shall consist of twelve (12) members, appointed for staggered two-year terms. Board members must be residents of the City of Duncanville which shall have a minimum of three African American, three Latinx and three women. The twelve-member board shall serve staggered two-year terms; the City Council shall appoint five two-year terms and four one-year terms; thereafter all members shall be appointed to two-year terms.
  • Continuance of membership on the Partnership shall be contingent upon regular attendance at Partnership meetings as provided by the Code of Ordinances.
  • Each year at the first meeting after newly named appointees have been seated on the Multicultural Commission the Board shall elect a president and a vice-president among its membership. The City Manager shall designate a staff member as Partnership liaison, who shall serve as an ex-officio member and secretary. Officers may be reelected as long as they remain on the Board.
  • This Partnership shall establish a time and date for Partnership meetings and adopt procedures for these meetings. The Partnership can hold as many meetings as  necessary to complete its purpose, but shall hold at least six meetings per year. The members of the Board may meet as an executive committee of three members to focus on issues for the African American, Latinx and woman on specific project and/or issues for recommendations to the Board or City Council.
  • The President shall preside over meetings of the Board, and shall represent the Partnership before the City Council or City Administration on matters which have majority vote approval of the Partnership. The President shall also establish such committees as are necessary for the conduct of the Partnership's business.
  • The Vice President shall assist the President in directing the affairs of the Partnership. In the absence of the President, the Vice President shall assume the duties of the President
