• A total of 1,973 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with no new properties registered since the last update. 26 inspections have been completed since the previous update; 22 passed, 4 failed, and none were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and improper installation of water heaters.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in August 2024, 338 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 105 Building inspections and 22 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $23,183.01.
  
• This week, 218 permits were issued.
  

Mosquito Ground Spraying Schedueled for Thursday and Friday

The City of Duncanville, at the recommendation and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), will be conducting ground spraying against mosquitoes on Thursday, September 12 and Friday, September 13 between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted in response to the detection of West Nile Virus in three mosquito traps located in the 75116 and 75137 zip codes. If the weather prohibits spraying on Thursday night, spraying will be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights. Spraying will be performed in the targeted area within the City of Duncanville (see the attached map). Residents living within the spray zone are encouraged to remain indoors and bring their pets inside during spraying.

The Duncanville Fire Department Firefighters/Paramedics Colton Kirk, Ross Glauben, Jarrod Craig, Evan Barger, Bryant Medhus, Captain Reed Churman, and BC Jason Wigginton participated in the 2024 Dallas 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb in downtown Dallas on Saturday, September 7. Southwest Regional Emergency Management Coordinator Lauren Sanchez coordinated the event.

The Duncanville Fire Department was recognized by the North Central Texas Trauma Regional Advisory Council (NCTTRAC) at its annual general membership meeting for our two firefighters/paramedics deploying as part of the Emergency Medical Task Force (EMTF)—2 response to Hurricane Beryl.

The Fire Department responded to 145 calls for service in the past seven days, which included:

Fire Prevention:

The Police Department had a fantastic experience on September 5th during the Chicken with the Chief event at Chick-fil-A. The Police Department, Citizens on Patrol, the Fire Department, and the Duncanville Independent School District Police Department enjoyed interacting with citizens and bridging the gap with their first responders.

 The Friends of the Duncanville Library held their annual book sale on September 6 and 7. With over $2000 in sales and donations, the sale welcomed many happy and excited customers who browsed through a fantastic selection of books. Funds from the book sale will support library programming throughout the year. We greatly appreciate all the Friends do for the library through fundraising and advocacy!

Short-Term Rental Registration

• The city has been in discussions with several companies that offer short-term rental tracking services. A future meeting with one of the finalists is yet to be determined.

Street Division

• Crews repaired sidewalks on Walnut Street, Oriole Boulevard, Hillcroft Drive, and Blueridge Drive.
  
• Crews repaired a utility cut on Bradley Drive.
  
• Crews repaired fifty potholes throughout the city.
  
• Anderson Asphalt, a Duncanville contractor, milled and overlaid Rolling Ridge Lane, Middale Road, Markwood Drive, and Jellison Boulevard.
  

Utilities Division 

Water usage was 39,129,000 gallons during this reporting period, September 2 – September 8, 2024, down from 48,697,000 MG the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Monday, September 2, 2024, when 6,305,000 MG of water was used. There was 1.01 inches of precipitation during this period. There was an estimated 1,512,742 gallons of water loss, including one water main break.

CIP Construction

Other Construction

Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Road to Hampton Road TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville to Hampton Road in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Road on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.
