BUILDING INSPECTIONS |
- A total of 1,973 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with no new properties registered since the last update. 20 inspections have been completed since the previous update; 14 passed, 6 failed, and none were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and improper installation of water heaters.
- Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in August 2024, 283 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
- This week, 72 Building inspections and 18 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $70,412.00.
- This week, 136 permits were issued.

COMMUNICATIONS AND MARKETING |
Mosquito Ground Spraying Schedueled for Thursday and Friday
08/21/2024
Duncanville, TX - The City of Duncanville, at the recommendation and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), will be conducting ground spraying against mosquitoes on Thursday, August 22 and Friday, August 23, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted in response to the detection of West Nile Virus in mosquito traps located in the 75137 zip code. If the weather prohibits spraying on Thursday night, spraying will be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights. Spraying will be performed in the targeted area within the City of Duncanville (see the attached map). Residents living within the spray zone are encouraged to remain indoors and bring their pets inside during spraying.
Duncanville names longtime officer the city's next chief of police
Duncanville is one step closer to officially naming its new chief of police.
Last week, the city named longtime Duncanville police officer Matthew Stogner the lone finalist for the chief of police position. On Tuesday, the City Council will hear a resolution confirming his position and announce a date for the swearing-in ceremony.

- Attended the regional Cyber/Emergency Operations Center/Fusion Center Workshop, completed Stop The Bleed training for all City of DeSoto employees, and attended Fire Mitigation Strategy Meeting in Cedar Hill.
- Summer Emergency Management Intern, Raine Maner (University of North Texas Student) completed her internship and returned to UNT.
- Our Fall Emergency Management Intern, Tabetha Kwasnica (University of Texas Arlington Student) started her internship with our department on Monday, August 19th.

Fire Prevention:
- Completed a total of 7 plan reviews, 8 building inspections, and 5 fire acceptance tests.
- Fire Marshal completed and passed his Fire & Life Safety Educator 2 State Skills Test.
- The Deputy Fire Marshal completed and passed his Fire & Life Safety Educator 2 State Skills Test and Fire Investigator 2 Exam.

Senior Meal Program: Monday through Thursday, everyone who dines with us will receive a breakfast bag and a boxed lunch to take home. On Fridays, each person will receive two breakfast bags and two boxed lunches to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. This is due to additional state funding from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). The funding and expanded meal program will continue through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2024, and there is no additional cost to the City.

- The fountain at Lakeside Park has been repaired.
- Crews performed bed maintenance at the Duncanville Public Library and E. Danieldale Rd. medians.

Pickleball Youth Camp Recap:
Pickleball Camp – Over 20 participants joined us for the first-ever Pickleball Camp. During this three-day camp, participants learned the basics of the game, e.g., the court lines and rules, information on a single or double play, technique, scoring, etc. Players had the opportunity to participate in tournaments with 2 first-place winners, 2 second-place winners, and 2 third-place winners. Each participant also received a T-shirt. Thank you to Coach Richard and Councilmember Jeremy Koontz for coaching this camp. Staff are identifying new dates to host a 2-Day Pickleball Camp during the Christmas break. Stay tuned!

- A Statement of Qualifications due March 26, 2024, at 2 p.m.
- Evaluations were completed and 3 firms have been selected.
- Recently, the Comprehensive Plan Committee selected 1 firm.
- Selected firm for Comprehensive Plan Update discussed during a work session at the July 16, 2024, City Council meeting.
- The selected firm’s contract was brought forth at the Duncanville Community Economic Development Corporation Board on July 30, 2024, for approval.
- Discussion took place at the August 6, 2024, City Council meeting regarding kick-off of The Comprehensive Plan Update.

Street Division
- Crews repaired Silver Creek Drive, Oriole Boulevard, and Hillcroft Drive sidewalks.
- 59 potholes were repaired at various locations throughout the city.
- The brush blocking 3 drainage headwalls was removed.
- Trees impeding traffic on Cambridge Drive were removed.
- Crews repaired pedestrian railing on Greenstone.
- Crews repaired a utility cut on Cambridge Drive.
- The street pavement on Vinyard Road has been repaired.
- Crews cleaned 53 stormwater inlets at various locations throughout the city.
Utilities Division
Water usage was 69,321,400 gallons (MG) during this reporting period, August 12 – August 18, 2024, up from 63,242,800 MG the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Monday, August 12, 2024, when 10,815,800 MG of water was used. There was 0.00 inches of precipitation during this period. There was an estimated 375,299 gallons of water loss, including one water main break.
CIP Construction
- Wren Avenue and Oriole Boulevard Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing
- The project is nearing completion. The air valve cover will be installed soon, and the preliminary walk-through will be scheduled.
Softwood Drive Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair
- Crews await the welder to install the I-Beam.
Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements
- There are no new updates.
- Oriole ADA Sidewalk Improvements
- The project is nearing completion. Meca Construction is awaiting the arrival of meter boxes & fire hydrant that must be installed as part of the project.
Harrington Park/Ten Mile
- Texas Standard Construction has begun clearing the area to prepare for construction.
Other Construction
Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Road to Hampton Road TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville to Hampton Road in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Road on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

City of Dallas Stormwater Project on Sorcey Road at White Ash – Dallas is working on installing an approved storm sewer.
