The Fire Department responded to 125 calls for service in the past seven days, which included:

- 1 vehicle fire and 1 construction debris fire in Duncanville
- Emergency Medical Services: 87
- Motor Vehicle Accidents: 10
The Emergency Management Division welcomes Raine Maner to complete a summer internship for the University of North Texas Emergency Management degree program; Lauren Sanchez and Raqheal Payne attended an Active Shooter Full-Scale Exercise in Waxahachie, attended a Lancaster ISD Active Shooter tabletop exercise; and the team also conducted the State of Texas Emergency Assistance Registry (STEAR) Wellness Check registry contact test for all four cities; Lauren recorded a Desoto In-Depth Facebook Live video on Emergency Management topics.

The Police Department welcomes the public to access www.crimemapping.com for resources; citizens can also sign up for crime alerts within their location's radius.

- Our Evidence Department was in possession of 32 unclaimed bicycles that no longer had evidentiary value; the Senior Evidence Technician conducted research and located Bikes for Tykes, Inc. Bikes for Tykes is a non-profit organization that repairs and delivers bicycles to children in the D/FW area and other Countries.
- Recruit Mariana Barbosa graduated from the Regional Police Academy.
- The Department began a department-wide Emergency Vehicle Operations Course. A big thank you to our Training and Personnel Division for leading this enormous undertaking.

The Library’s Summer Reading Club programming continues!
This week's highlights are:
- This week, the Library hosted the Dallas Zoo for Summer Reading Club and delighted 128 attendees with many amazing animals.
- The Summer Reading Camp program had 295 participants from June 15 to June 20.
- The Best Southwest Library Consortium welcomed 334 participants this week.
Upcoming Events
The Library has added a Little Free Fridge to our Pantry. The Pantry and the Fridge are open to anyone in need. Staff members can receive donations.
There are two new Curiosity Kits for checkout. Each kit has books and other materials on a specific topic. One of the latest kits is Geocaching, and the other is Birding. The other two kits are Hearth Health and Tarot.

D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center
Senior Meal Program: Monday through Thursday, everyone who dines with us will receive a breakfast bag and a boxed lunch to take home. On Fridays, each person will receive two breakfast bags and two boxed lunches to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. This is due to additional state funding from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). The funding and expanded meal program will continue through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2024, and there is no additional cost to the City.

Red, White & BBQ – Thursday, July 4 – Saturday, July 6, 2024
The City of Duncanville warmly invites you to join our community for a star-spangled celebration at the annual Red, White, and BBQ event from July 4 to July 6 at Armstrong Park (100 James Collins Blvd., Duncanville, TX). This three-day extravaganza, sanctioned by the Champions Barbecue Alliance, promises an exciting Independence Day weekend filled with festivities for all ages. Duncanville aims to provide a vibrant community celebration for Independence Day, bringing together families and friends to enjoy great food, live entertainment, and festive activities.
Wristbands are required. Entry wristbands are available at the Duncanville Recreation Center (201 James Collins Blvd.).
Pickleball Youth Camp – Monday, July 29, Wednesday, July 31, & August 2, 2024 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This is a 3-day camp for youth ages 5 to 16 years of age. Participants will learn the basics of the game. e.g., the court lines and rules, information on a single or double play, technique, scoring, etc. Coach Richard, along with Councilmember Mr. Jeremy Koontz, will also be involved in assisting with coaching. The camp will occur during our regular pickleball hours - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. This is a FREE event with limited space available.

- Staff developed a Business Retention Team to visit local businesses and address owner concerns.
- Implemented a strategic plan for the Fieldhouse to become a more integral part of economic development

- The City Council approved a Resolution allowing for beer and wine to be available for sale on July 5 and 6 during the Red, White, and BBQ celebration at Armstrong Park
The City Council and the Duncanville Community and Economic Development Corporation (DCEDC) are planning a joint meeting on July 30, 2024, to view the collaborative space at Wheatland Plaza.

- One (1) property was mailed a final notice from the Planning Division on January 19th, 2024.
- Two (2) properties were mailed an initial notice from the Planning Division on January 19th, 2024.

- Three (3) properties were granted a Specific Use Permit by the City Council on May 21, 2024.

PUBLIC WORKS
Street Division
- Crews removed fallen trees from the Right-of-Way on Roundtop Blvd., Oriole Blvd., and Carder St.
- Crews poured concrete for utility cut repairs on Royal Ave. and E. Cherry St.
- A drainage culvert on N. Cedar Ridge Dr. has been repaired.
- Crews removed trash bags from the roadway on W. Wheatland Rd., E. of Clark Rd.
- Crews assisted with barricades and cones at the DuncanSwitch weekend event.
- Vehicle parts and other debris were removed from the roadway and median on E. Camp Wisdom Rd.
- Crews repaired potholes on N Cedar Ridge Dr.
Utilities Division
- Water usage was 49.4478 million gallons (MG) during this reporting period, June 10 – June 16, 2024, up from 45.4582 MG the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Thursday, June 13, 2024, when 9.6306 MG of water was used. There was 0.53 inches of precipitation during this period. There was an estimated 527,332 gallons of water loss.

- Oriole Sidewalk Improvements
- The area north of I-20 is 90% complete.
- Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements
- Stoic Construction continues working on sites 1 and 2; the project is progressing well.
- Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing
- Insulation for the water main on the utility bridge is scheduled to begin next week.
- Softwood Dr. Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair
- Crews are awaiting beam delivery. The Trinity River Authority manhole has been tapped for a new entry point. This was inspected by the Trinity River Authority and passed inspection.
Other Construction
- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

| BUILDING INSPECTIONS |
- A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Fifteen inspections have been completed since the previous update; nine passed, six failed, and none were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
- Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in June 2024, 206 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
- This week, 85 Building inspections and 14 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $22,378.64.
- This week, 81 permits were issued.
