The City of Duncanville is proud to host its annual Black History Month celebration with a special Fireside Chat event. This year’s theme centers on honoring the achievements and contributions of extraordinary leaders in our community. Attendees will enjoy a dynamic evening featuring live entertainment, thought-provoking discussions, and light refreshments in a welcoming and engaging atmosphere.

Guest Speakers:
- Brittani Moncrease – An accomplished journalist with a master’s in public policy and a bachelor’s in Broadcast Journalism from Howard University. Currently with WFAA, her career includes roles at ABC24, Spectrum News, and CBS3. Brittani has been recognized with a Mid-South Emmy nomination, the Champion for Change Award from Ms. Opal Lee, and has appeared on the Dr. Phil Show for her impactful reporting.
- Don Johnson - A dedicated community leader with over 50 years of service in South Dallas. As founder of Welcome House, Inc. and a member of the Dallas South Lions Club, he has provided vital resources for those facing addiction, HIV/AIDS, and reintegration challenges. Johnson made history as the first African American president of the Past District Governors of Texas Lions and has held numerous leadership roles within the organization. He also serves on Duncanville’s Citizens on Patrol program, the Park Board, and the Welfare Board. A mentor and teacher at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, his lifelong commitment to service continues to inspire generations.
- Betty Culbreath - A Dallas native with over 45 years of experience in public housing and human services. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School and Huston-Tillotson University, she has served as director of Dallas County Health and Human Services, Chairwoman of the DFW Airport Board, Vice chair of the Duncanville Plan Commission and co-chair of the HOPE Task Force, earning recognition for her leadership and community impact.
- LaTarah Edmond – The owner of Good Hair Day Salon and a Texas A&M University graduate with a background in Journalism and Business Administration. After beginning her career at The Dallas Morning News, she pursued her passion for hairstyling, opening her salon in 2012. A marketing consultant and business coach, LaTarah also launched BAAS, a professional hair care line, and actively collaborates with local non-profits to support the community.
- Reggie Dupard - A former American football running back who played in the NFL for five seasons. He started at SMU, earning All American honors before being selected in the first round of the1986 NFL Draft by the New England Patriots. Dupard later played for the Washington Commanders, formally known as the Washington Redskins, before retiring. Known for his speed and versatility, he had a successful college career and contributed as a rusher in the NFL. After football, he dedicated himself to youth mentorship and community work, helping to guide and inspire young athletes.
