On Tuesday, September 17, 2024, the Duncanville City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2024-2025 Fee Schedule, which includes a rate increase for services provided by Republic Services for solid waste pickup and Waste Management for landfill disposal services. As stated in their contract, Republic Services may request an annual increase based upon changes in the Consumer Price Index (CPI).

On August 14, 2024, at approximately 1:00 p.m., Duncanville Police Officers responded to multiple calls for service regarding a shooting with injury at 875 E Highway 67 Service Road. Within two minutes, officers arrived at the scene and located an adult male with multiple gunshot wounds. Officers provided immediate medical assistance to the male and summoned Duncanville Fire Department paramedics to the scene. Duncanville Fire Department paramedics arrived and transported the male to Methodist Dallas Medical Center.

The City of Duncanville is pleased to announce the appointment of Victor Barrera as the City’s new Economic Development Director.

Started in 2016, the Property Improvement Program (PIP) Days, is a partnership between the First United Methodist Church in Duncanville, the City’s Neighborhood Vitality Commission, and volunteers from the within the community. Twice per year, the PIP Days’ volunteers repair the exterior of homes, assist with fence repairs, or complete yard work for Duncanville homeowners who cannot complete these projects themselves due to life circumstances. These cosmetic updates help to bring local residences back to community standards while eliminating a stressor for the homeowner.

Early on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, rain and destructive winds moved through Duncanville, Texas. Many residents emerged from their homes without electricity to find fallen trees and branches. Even Duncanville City Hall was not immune to power outages that hit the city. However, during and after the storm, city staff jumped into action, responding to calls and clearing streets.

On April 11, 2024, at 4:28 p.m., Duncanville Police Department Officers were dispatched to a suspicious activity call for service in the 1300 block of Circle Drive. The reporting party advised that he located a missile-shaped object, possibly an explosive while digging in his backyard. The reporting party was instructed to evacuate his home immediately.

On Monday, February 12, 2024, the dedicated men and women of the Duncanville Fire Department (Station #2 – ‘B Shift’) gathered with Chief Rohde and City Administration, including City Manager Douglas Finch, Assistant City Manager Robert Brown, Assistant to City Manager David Kees, and Executive Liaison Sofine Lewis. Amidst a breakfast meeting, firefighters shared their concerns about the staggering call volume of over 7,000 calls per year and emphasized the urgent need for additional staffing and equipment to better serve the residents of the City of Duncanville.

On December 3, at approximately 5:27 PM, the Duncanville Fire Department responded to a commercial structure fire located at the 200 block of Woodhaven Boulevard in Duncanville. Firefighters from Cedar Hill, DeSoto, and Dallas also responded to the 2-alarm fire. The fire was extinguished at approximately 6:14 PM.

The Duncanville Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in a shooting that left one person wounded.

On Friday, November 17, 2023, at approximately 5:18 p.m., Duncanville police officers responded to a shooting in the 300 block of Linkwood Dr. Preliminary information indicated that two unknown suspects had shot a male victim. Officers responded to the scene, located the male, and administered first aid. The male victim was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

On Tuesday, September 12, 2023, at approximately 10:46 a.m., Duncanville police officers responded to a robbery in the area of Echo Drive and Oriole Boulevard. Preliminary information indicated that the caller and the suspect knew each other. The suspect was observed running into his residence and then refused to cooperate with the officers on scene. The Duncanville SWAT team responded to the location and began negotiations, ultimately ending with the suspect voluntarily exiting his residence and being taken into custody without further incident.

The Duncanville Independent School District Board of Trustees has called for a $170 million bond package for the November 2023 election cycle. Registered voters residing within the Duncanville ISD boundaries are asked to vote on two propositions that would generate funding for districtwide maintenance and security updates, school bus replacements, expansion of the Career & Technical Education program at Duncanville High School, technology upgrades, and campus reconfigurations to accommodate an early childhood center and increase school choice opportunities for families.

Upon a preliminary review of an arrest of Mr. Keandre Green by Duncanville Police Officers on August 11, 2023, the pertinent facts, as we know them today, are: On Friday, August 11, 2023, at approximately 11:50 AM, Duncanville Police Officers responded to an indecent exposure call in the alley of the 900 block of Wayne Avenue. A female caller advised 9-1-1 that she observed a black male, wearing red shorts and white shirt, possibly in his early 20’s, exposing his penis.

Weather permitting, the eastbound Interstate 20 (I-20) on-ramp from Main Street in Duncanville will be closed from 9 p.m. Sunday, August 6 through Thursday, Aug. 31. Traffic will be directed to use the eastbound I-20 on-ramp at Cockrell Hill Road during this time. Drivers should plan ahead for extra travel time in this area.

STAR Transit, a regional public transit agency, held a ribbon cutting ceremony July 17th to celebrate the expansion of public transportation services in Duncanville. Residents can now hail rides within Duncanville and connect to other regional transportation networks.

A DeSoto Police Department High-Intensity Crime Reduction Unit (HICRU) investigation culminated on April 18th with the multi-agency arrests of four men; the seizure of 142 pounds of marijuana; and the recovery of six handguns, two assault-style pistols, an assault-style rifle, and over $42,000 in cash. One of the handguns was stolen.

The City of Duncanville has been alerted of a possible Everbridge notification that includes profane language from our Everbridge Emergency Notification System. The City of Duncanville is currently investigating the origins of the message.

The 2018 Duncanville Bond Program was approved by voters in November of that same year. The program originally consisted of 10 projects organized into four propositions. Proposition B included the allocation of $5,033,000 for the reconstruction of a segment of Danieldale Road. The reconstruction project includes replacing the water lines beneath the surface as well as new pavement. Once complete, the configuration will be a four-lane divided roadway with hike and bike trails along the north and south sides.

District departments and campus leaders across Duncanville ISD have joined together to raise awareness about the value of regular school attendance and focus on reducing chronic absenteeism. The Duncanville Public Works Department is currently undergoing clean-up, remediation, and disinfection of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) they located on January 16, 2023, in the City of Duncanville wastewater collection system. The overflow originated from an aerial crossing located on the south side of Harrington Park at Tenmile Creek and Stewart Branch.

On Sunday, January 15, 2023, at approximately 2:26 a.m., Duncanville Police Officers responded to a call for service regarding a shooting with injuries at 1547 Sunrise Lane. Within minutes, officers arrived at the location and discovered an adult male suffering from a single apparent gunshot wound. The officers provided immediate medical assistance to the male and summoned Duncanville Fire Department paramedics. However, shortly after their arrival, paramedics pronounced the male deceased at the scene.

On Monday, December 12, 2022, at approximately 4:55 AM, the Duncanville Police Department received a call for service regarding a business alarm at 331 E Camp Wisdom Road in the City of Duncanville. Police Dispatch advised responding officers that a male in a blue hoodie was placing items in his backpack via live surveillance footage.

November 10, 2022--Duncanville Independent School District Superintendent Dr. Marc Smith announced he is making changes within the District’s Athletic Department. The restructuring will include reassignment of several current personnel and the addition of a new compliance officer to focus on UIL rules.

At a hearing this morning, the UIL State Executive Committee voted to suspend Coach David Peavy for one year for playing a student that the Committee determined was an ineligible player. In addition to Coach Peavy’s suspension, the Committee determined that the Duncanville Boys Basketball program forfeits all games in which the student played and therefore forfeits the 2022 Conference 6A Boys Basketball State Championship.

Low-interest federal disaster loans are available to Texas businesses and residents affected by the severe storms and flooding that occurred Aug. 22 – 25, 2022, announced Administrator Isabella Casillas Guzman of the U.S. Small Business Administration. SBA acted under its own authority to declare a disaster in response to a request SBA received from Governor Greg Abbott on Sept. 13, 2022.

The Duncanville Public Works Department is currently undergoing clean-up, remediation, and disinfection of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO) that occurred on August 24, 2022, in the City of Duncanville wastewater collection system, caused by weather conditions and heavy rainfall from early the same week. The overflows affected Bentle Branch Creek from the 300 block of Softwood Drive to the 300 block of Lakeview Circle.

Public Works Department is currently undergoing clean-up, remediation, and disinfection of a Sanitary Sewer Overflow (SSO).

In the hours after the fire was extinguished, nearby residents alerted the City of a foam-like substance appearing in their faucets, hoses, and drains.
