Rental Weekly Inspection Report
A total of 32 rental inspections were scheduled: 13 passed, 19 failed, and 0 were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and ground rods and water heaters that were not up to current code.
13 Single Family Rental Certificates of Occupancy have been reissued.
A total of 2 Apartment Unit Inspections for this week has been completed.

- Participated in the Run for the Wall event planning.

Fire Administration
- Metro Fire Apparatus did a presentation on their Spartan Quint apparatus to the Apparatus Committee on May 5.
- Getting bids on Fire Station 2 improvements. A firefighter from each shift, plus Building Maintenance staff member Carlos Fernandez, is assisting on the project.
- The Emergency Management Services division will be tracking the new First Due electronic patient care reporting approved by the City Council on March 17 to ensure proposed deliverables are achieved. Once training is completed and implementation is initiated, a monthly update will be provided.
- Work on the Texas Fire Chiefs Association Best Practices project. Making a lot of progress with 80% of the project completed at this point. Project completion expected in 2026.
- Work on the Insurance Services Office (ISO) project and will schedule an ISO inspection in 2027 to attain a Class 1 rating. Increasing monthly fire training to the required 16 hours a month starting in April 2026.

As part of the business recruitment and attraction strategy for commercial retail sites The Economic Development staff attended the ICSC Las Vegas retail convention (May 18–20), one of the largest retail real estate events in the world, representing Duncanville with a two-person staff delegation supported by our real estate advisory partners at Catalyst Commercial. Combined, the team conducted approximately 15 brand meetings, site discussions, and organizational connections across the three-day event. Program Highlights
- The D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center offered a strong week of programs focused on fellowship, creativity, wellness, education, and community connection. Members enjoyed the Goldenaires’ performance, celebrated May birthdays with cake and ice cream, and participated in a Memorial-themed Painting with a Twist class that encouraged creativity and meaningful reflection.
- Senior Center programming also supported health education and lifelong learning through a Snack and Learn with Share and Care, a stress management Health Talk with Molina Healthcare, and a Medicare information session with United Healthcare. Members continued to stay socially active through Bingo, Loteria, a bowling outing to Alley Cats, a dinner trip to Celebration Restaurant, and a Mystery Lunch trip to The Bulls Pen Cafe in Mesquite.
- The week also included a hands-on Healthy Sweet Bites cooking class, where members created nutritious dessert options while learning practical ways to make healthier choices. Overall, the Senior Center continued to provide programs that promote social engagement, wellness, creativity, and meaningful connections for Duncanville seniors.

PARKS
- Staff successfully supported the Harrington soccer/concession building ribbon-cutting event, including event setup, facility preparation, and post-event cleanup.
- Athletics hosted an end-of-season baseball tournament, prepared five baseball fields for weekend play, painted 13 soccer fields for games and practices, and replaced two base anchors at Harrington baseball fields.
- Athletic field maintenance continued with irrigation acidifier and surfactant treatments applied to 15 soccer fields to improve water infiltration and hydration efficiency.
- Mowing operations continued across City Hall, Police Department, Annex, Fire Station 2, Pyburn Park, Rotary Park, Alexander Park, Lions Park, and Harrington Park.
- Mowing crews completed full mowing operations at Harrington Park and returned to complete string trimming around baseball fields, utility lines, trees, and common areas.
- Crews supported BloomFest cleanup by relocating light towers, generators, tables, chairs, and organizing storage areas at Armstrong Park.
- Parks Maintenance inspected the Waterview walking trail lighting and identified two lights out for follow-up repair.
- Parks Maintenance applied decomposed granite herbicide treatment along the Lakeside walking trail and multiple playground areas, power-washed the playground at Pyburn Park, inspected the Armstrong playground, and redistributed wood fiber surfacing for safety compliance.
- Staff continued sourcing a replacement spring rocker for the Harrington playground, cleaned exercise equipment at Red Bird Park, retrieved the spray rig from the Service Center, and began construction of decorative blue trash cans.
- Horticulture crews supported BloomFest cleanup, completed landscape bed maintenance at Waterview, Costco, 67 and Main, Fieldhouse, Fire Station 2, Police Department, and City Hall, and performed shrub trimming, sucker removal, edging repair, and weed control across multiple sites.
- Horticulture crews applied liquid fertilizer to roses, Pentas, flowers, and ornamental beds, and applied pre-emergent and Atrimmec treatments at multiple locations.
- Staff identified black spot concerns on rose bushes at the Fieldhouse and began vendor consultation for treatment recommendations.
- Horticulture addressed drainage concerns at the Police Department entry area, coordinated mulch delivery with contractors and Living Earth, completed Harrington make-ready work, and conducted shop cleanup and equipment maintenance.
- Operational challenges included reduced staffing due to illness, a two-person mowing crew on Thursday, two Waterview trail lights requiring repair, continued need for a Harrington spring rocker replacement, and follow-up treatment recommendations for rose disease concerns.
- Upcoming priorities include continued citywide mowing rotations, detailed weed-eating and turf maintenance, rose disease treatment follow-up, mulch coordination, Waterview trail lighting repairs, playground equipment replacement, and athletic field preparation for upcoming tournaments and seasonal programming.
Recreation Center
Community Event Highlights
This past weekend, the Duncanville Recreation Center participated in Duncan Switch, where staff connected with more than 50 community members. While attendance was slightly lower than the previous month, staff still made meaningful community connections and continued representing both the City and the Recreation Center in a positive and engaging manner.
Facility Highlights
This week, the Duncanville Recreation Center is serving as a community voting center, utilizing meeting rooms throughout the week and hosting Primary Election voting on Tuesday, May 26. The Recreation Center is proud to continue partnering with Dallas County Elections, as these events help bring new visitors into both the Recreation Center and the Duncanville Library while providing an important civic service to the community.
Program Highlights
- This week, the Recreation Center is highlighting the Jazzercise program, which has had an active and exciting month filled with themed events and community engagement opportunities. Coach Sheilla began the month by hosting a Cinco de Mayo-themed class, where participants dressed in festive workout attire and enjoyed a themed fitness experience. Later that same week, she organized a complimentary Teacher Appreciation class, allowing local educators to participate in a free lunchtime Jazzercise session.
- This past Saturday, the program celebrated a major milestone as its first participant reached 150 completed classes. To continue the month’s activities, Coach Sheilla will also host a free Memorial Day workout class on Monday, May 25, in the Duncanville Recreation Center parking lot. The Jazzercise program continues to be one of the Recreation Center’s core fitness offerings, with consistent efforts to create engaging experiences, grow participation, and welcome new members into the Recreation Center community.
- The Taekwondo program also continues to see increased interest and participation, demonstrating growing demand for structured youth and family fitness programs that promote discipline, confidence, coordination, and physical activity. Journey Dance Center continues to provide engaging dance instruction and creative movement opportunities, contributing to the Recreation Center’s diverse lineup of enrichment, wellness, and performing arts programs.

Red, White, & Goals Returns July 3–4, 2026
The City of Duncanville is excited to announce the return of its annual Independence Day celebration, reimagined this year as Red, White, & Goals, a two-day community celebration taking place July 3–4, 2026. This expanded event experience combines Duncanville’s long-standing patriotic traditions with family-friendly entertainment, community engagement, and the excitement surrounding the global soccer atmosphere leading into 2026.
Activities will take place throughout the community and are expected to draw residents and visitors from across the Best Southwest region.
Thursday, July 3 – Watch Party & Soccer Day
The celebration will kick off on Thursday, July 3, with a community watch party and soccer-themed activities designed to create an energetic and family-friendly atmosphere ahead of Independence Day festivities. Activities will include:

The July 3 activation is intended to encourage overnight visitation, expand tourism opportunities, and create a full holiday weekend experience for residents and visitors alike.

On Friday, July 4, Duncanville will continue its long-standing Independence Day tradition with a full day of patriotic festivities, beginning with the annual parade hosted by the Duncanville Lions Club.

Vendor applications for food vendors, market vendors, community organizations, and activity participants are now officially open. Businesses and organizations interested in participating are encouraged to apply early due to limited space availability.
The Red, White, & Goals celebration supports the City’s continued efforts to enhance tourism, community engagement, and economic activity through high-quality special events and destination-focused programming.

The Planning & Zoning department held a Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting on May 7, 2026, for a sign variance. The request was granted.
The Planning & Zoning department had to cancel the Monday, May 11, 2026, Planning & Zoning Commission meeting due to a lack of quorum.

PUBLIC WORKS
Construction Notice
The City of Duncanville is starting construction! Please anticipate increased traffic and delays in the area. Construction will begin on April 25, 2026, with an estimated completion of mid- May 2027. Please note that rocky soil conditions and weather can impact the scheduled timeline.
Who: Residents of Duncanville
What: Project: The project consists of the reconstruction of roadway paving, drainage, water, wastewater, sidewalk, and pedestrian improvements.
Where: North Cedar Ridge Drive from Cathy Self-Morgan Way/Middale to W. Camp Wisdom Road.
When: April 25, 2026, through mid-May 2027.
Why: To repair the roadway and utilities that have exceeded their lifetime and provide better service and safety to the residents and public.

Engineering and Right-of-Way
- The Cedar Ridge Reconstruction Project is underway. The contractor has now installed approximately 230 lineal feet of 8-inch sanitary sewer main and removed the existing manhole.
Street Division
- Crew completed the repair of one asphalt pothole on Cockrell Hill Road at the I‑20 interchange.
- Crews cut and removed fallen trees on Oriole Boulevard, Sunset Lane, and Calder Avenue.
- Crew weeded and removed trash and debris from four storm drain inlets on Wayne Avenue.
- Crew assisted with lane closure of North Duncanville Road for the Veterans Run for the Wall event.
- Crew removed overgrown weeds and accumulated debris from Big Stone Gap Road.
- Crews located a total of 23 utility storm drain inlets throughout the city limits.
- Crews utilized the brush truck to assist with bulk and brush hauling operations citywide.
Utilities Division
- From May 11-17, 2026, 34,435,050 gallons of water were pumped. The estimated water loss for that week was 227,500 gallons.
- The kickoff meeting for the Advanced Metering Infrastructure project was held on May 14, 2026. Meter installation is scheduled to begin in July 2026.
