BUILDING INSPECTIONS |
- A total of 1,973 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with no new properties registered since the last update. Seventeen inspections have been completed since the previous update; ten passed, seven failed, and none were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
- Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in July 2024, 239 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
- This week, 117 Building inspections and 18 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $10,393.00.
- This week, 82 permits were issued.

The Fire Department responded to 110 calls for service in the past seven days, which included:

Fire Engineer Jay Berry, Firefighter/Paramedic Jarrod Craig, and Cedar Hill and DeSoto Fire Department members returned from the Ambus deployment to southeast Texas. The Ambus crew relocated hundreds of patients from nursing homes, hospitals, and physical rehab facilities. The crew was initially headed to Corpus Christi, and once Hurricane Beryl changed its trajectory, they were reassigned to College Station. Once the new path of the hurricane was established, the Ambus was sent to Lufkin for a few days and then reassigned to the NRG Arena Shelter in Houston. The Ambus crew was deployed for 12 days and returned Wednesday evening.
We want to welcome Casey Vincent to the Duncanville Fire Department family! Casey came to Duncanville after serving in the U.S. Army and began employment on June 15th.
If you noticed several fire apparatuses around the Hilton Garden Inn on multiple days in the past week, our Regional Training Chief Mark Madrid conducted mid-rise operations training for Duncanville, Desoto, Cedar Hill, and Lancaster.
Emergency Management Operations Coordinator Lauren Sanchez, Emergency Management Specialist Raqheal Payne, and Emergency Management Intern Raine Maner picked up and distributed the 2024 Emergency Response Guidebooks to all public safety departments in the southwest region. These guidebooks are an integral part of emergency response to identify and assist in mitigating hazardous material emergencies. The books are provided free of cost and are acquired through the North Texas Council of Governments (NTCOG). |

- The Department's Crime Prevention Officer met with a representative from the Target store located at Wheatland Road and Interstate 20. The Target representative graciously donated water and snacks to the Police Department.
- Recruits J. Vang, E. Ortiz, J. Garza, and A. Lopez completed their second week of Police Academy Training. This week, they began to cover the Texas Penal Code.

Duncanville Community & Economic Development Corporation staff attended a lunch meeting with the City of Duncanville’s Employee Advisory Team. The Employee Advisory Team is a representative group of city employees. Its primary role is to provide feedback, insights, and recommendations on various workplace matters to the management and leadership team. The lunch meeting was held at Alfonso’s Breakfast Burritos.
Duncanville Community & Economic Development Corporation staff are preparing for the July 22, 2024, Regular Board Meeting.

Senior Meal Program: Monday through Thursday, everyone who dines with us will receive a breakfast bag and a boxed lunch to take home. On Fridays, each person will receive two breakfast bags and two boxed lunches to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. This is due to additional state funding from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). The funding and expanded meal program will continue through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2024, and there is no additional cost to the City.

Pickleball Youth Camp – Monday, July 29, Wednesday, July 31, and Friday, August 2, 2024 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
This is a three-day camp for youth ages 5 to 16. Participants will learn the basics of the game, e.g., the court lines and rules, information on a single or double play, technique, scoring, etc. Coach Richard and Councilmember Mr. Jeremy Koontz will also assist with coaching. The camp will occur during our regular pickleball hours - Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning. This is a FREE event with limited space available.

Short-Term Rental Registration
- The City Council granted five (5) Properties a Specific Use Permit in July 2022. One (1) of the five (5) properties no longer operate as a short-term rental.
- Four (4) properties were mailed a certified final notice from the Building Official on 12/18/2023.
- One (1) property was mailed a final notice from the Planning Division on 1/19/2024.
Two (2) properties were mailed an initial notice from the Planning Division on 1/19/2024.
Temporary Workforce Housing Program

PUBLIC WORKS
|
Street Division
- Crews removed the blockage from the creek flow line behind Lazy River Drive.
- Concrete was poured on sidewalks on Amelia Street and Woodhaven Boulevard.
- Crews repaired an asphalt tie-in on Roundtop Boulevard and laid asphalt for a utility cut repair on Woodhaven Boulevard.
- Two drainage utility locates were marked.
- Crews cleaned fifty-two drainage grate inlets on South Cockrell Hill Road, South Cedar Ridge Drive, Longworth Boulevard, Sherrill Boulevard, Tanglewood Drive, and Johnson Drive.
- Pothole repairs were conducted on Silver Creek Drive, Sherrill Boulevard, and North Greenstone Lane.
Utilities Division
- Water usage was 62,774,800 gallons (MG) during this reporting period, July 8 – July 14, 2024, down from 65,264,400 MG the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Saturday, July 13, 2024, when 10,517,000 MG of water was used. There was 0.26 inches of precipitation during this period. There was an estimated 91,000 gallons of water loss.
CIP Construction
- Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements
- Wren Avenue and Oriole Boulevard Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing
- No update from last week. The aerial crossing is being insulated, and the project is nearing completion.
- Softwood Drive Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair
- No update from last week. Crews await the beam delivery.
- Oriole ADA Sidewalk Improvements
- Meca Construction returned to the project this week after brief hiatus and delivered sod for the north side of I-20.

Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Road to Hampton Road TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville to Hampton Road in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Road on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

AT&T’s subcontractor continues to work in the Huntington Park area. Fiber placement will begin this week.
