The Police Department welcomes the public to access www.crimemapping.com for resources; citizens can also sign up for crime alerts within their location's radius.

• On Tuesday, May 21, and Wednesday, May 22, Feed the Force served meals to Police Officers and professional staff.
  
• The Dallas County Sheriff’s Department and Duncanville Police Department held the annual Fire Truck pull benefiting Special Olympics. Thank you to everyone who came out, attended, and donated.

• The Keep Duncanville Beautiful Board will host the Keep Texas Waterways Clean Community Cleanup event on Saturday, June 1, at the Charles F. Ladd Nature Preserve from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM

Special Projects:

• Contractors performed work at Harrington Park Gate.
  
• Staff oversaw Pest application results at Lakeside Pond.
  
• Staff is working with contractors to resolve Lakeside Pond Fountain and Waterview Pond Fountain issues.
  
• Crews are trimming trees and shrubs along the Main Street corridor.

• Worked with Oncor
  
• Due to the storms this week, the contractor installing the fencing for the parking lot at the Charles F. Ladd Nature Preserve will be delayed until next week.

Duncanville Fieldhouse

The 2024 B.O.S.S. Summer Camp registration begins on April 15.

Activities include field trips, dance, cooking, football, basketball, volleyball, gym games, table games, cheer, arts and crafts, and tumbling.

D.L. Hopkins Jr. Senior Center

Senior Meal Program Update: Effective immediately, from Monday through Thursday, everyone who dines with us will receive a breakfast bag and a boxed lunch to take home. On Fridays, each person will receive two breakfast bags and two boxed lunches to enjoy on Saturday and Sunday. This is due to additional state funding from the Dallas Area Agency on Aging (DAAA). The funding and expanded meal program will continue through the end of the fiscal year, September 30, 2024, and there is no additional cost to the City.

Memorial Day Ceremony Recap
Memorial Day Ceremony Recap –Veterans, family members of veterans, Duncanville police officers and firefighters, scouts, and members of the  American Legion Post 81 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7843 (VFW) were present for the annual event. Mayor Greg Contreras welcomed participants and shared the many thanks from the City of Duncanville to all veterans for their service in the military. After the event, the American Legion Post 81 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 7843 (VFW) opened their doors to serve hot dogs, hamburgers, and soft drinks.

PUBLIC WORKS

Street Division

• Crews poured concrete on Power Dr. and Alexander Ave., replacing damaged concrete and N. Main St. for a utility street repair.
  
• The storm drainage cover has been replaced at City Hall.
  
• Three utility drainage locates were marked at various locations throughout the city.
  
• Crews cleaned headwalls and removed debris on W. Camp Wisdom Rd., W. Wheatland Rd., and Cedar Hill Rd.
  
• Fallen trees have been cut and removed throughout the City in response to damage incurred from the severe storms on Tuesday, May 28.

Utilities Division

• Water usage was 42.9138 million gallons (MG) during this reporting period, May 20-26, 2024, up from 41.7316 MG the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Thursday, May 23, 2024, when 7.81 MG of water was used. There was 0.2 inches of precipitation during this period.

Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Construction

Oriole Sidewalk Improvements

• City Council awarded the contract for sidewalk improvements throughout the Oriole Blvd. corridor between E. Camp Wisdom Rd. to E. Fairmeadows Dr. to Meca Construction LLC on April 16, 2024. Staff held the preconstruction meeting with the contractor on Friday, May 3rd. The project commenced on May 13 on Oriole Blvd. at E. Fairmeadows Dr.
  
• Meca Construction has begun pouring roadway and sidewalk sections.

Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements

• The current storm system has hampered the work at sites 1 and 2.
  

Wren Ave. and Oriole Blvd. Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing

• Bacteriological testing is to be redone on the utility bridge.

Softwood Dr. Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair

• Piers have been drilled. Crews are awaiting beam delivery.

Other Construction

• Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Rd. to Hampton Rd. TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Rd. in Duncanville to Hampton Rd. in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Rd. on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

• A total of 1,971 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with zero new properties registered since the last update. Seven inspections have been completed since the previous update; six passed, one failed, and zero were canceled. The primary reason for the failed inspections was the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection and missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in May 2024, 174 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 69 Building inspections and 10 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $15,485.61.
  
• This week, 71 permits were issued.

Duncanville Conducts Post-Storm Operations and Shares Updates and Resources for Those Impacted

Early on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, rain and destructive winds moved through Duncanville, Texas. Many residents emerged from their homes without electricity to find fallen trees and branches.
