City of Duncanville

• A total of 1,973 single-family rental properties have been registered to date, with no new properties registered since the last update. 21 inspections have been completed since the previous update; 18 passed, 3 failed, and none were canceled. The primary reasons for the failed inspections were the absence of a Grounded/Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) protection, missing carbon monoxide and smoke detectors, and improper installation of water heaters.
  
• Since the Single-Family Rental Registration Program inspections in August 2024, 315 Certificates of Occupancy have been re-issued.
  
• This week, 62 Building inspections and 15 Health Inspections were conducted. The total amount of fees collected was $22,611.88.
  
• This week, 199 permits were issued.

Mosquito Ground Spraying Schedueled for Thursday and Friday

The City of Duncanville, at the recommendation and in cooperation with Dallas County Health and Human Services (DCHHS), will be conducting ground spraying against mosquitoes on Thursday, September 5 and Friday, September 6, between the hours of 9:00 PM and 5:00 AM, weather permitting. The spraying is being conducted in response to the detection of West Nile Virus in mosquito traps located in the 75116 and 75137 zip codes. If the weather prohibits spraying on Thursday night, spraying will be conducted on Friday and Saturday nights. Spraying will be performed in the targeted area within the City of Duncanville (see the attached map). Residents living within the spray zone are encouraged to remain indoors and bring their pets inside during spraying.

The Duncanville Fire Department welcomed Fire Chief Chris Connealy to the family! Chief Connealy brings a wealth of experience to our department after serving as Fire Chief for the City of Houston and Cedar Park, as the State Fire Marshal, and as the Emergency Operations Coordinator for Williamson County. Welcome, Chief Connealy!

Duncanville firefighters participated in regional training that focused on vehicle extrication. Regional Training Chief Mark Madrid coordinated the training with Duncanville, Desoto, Cedar Hill, and Lancaster firefighters to attend the training. A huge Thank You to J&S Towing for allowing the training to be held at their towing yard!

• Completed a total of 10 Plan Reviews, 1 Hydro-Visual, 1 Fire Alarm Acceptance test, 2 Certificate of Occupancy inspections, 3 Development Review meetings
  
• The Fire Prevention Division attended a Paramedic Continuing Education class.
  

• Detective Welling and Officer Rawlins conducted twelve Vehicle Identification Number inspections.
  
• Session number 63 of our Citizens Police Academy has begun! This is a valuable program offered by the Police Department to bridge the gap between the community and their police officers. Join us on Saturday, September 7, at the Poe-Hobden Amphitheater at Armstrong Park for a Concert in the Park featuring Hazard County. • Twenty-five stormwater inlets at various locations were repaired throughout the city.
  
• Brush impeding drainage at various locations throughout the City has been removed.
  

Utilities Division 

Water usage was 48,697,000 gallons during this reporting period, August 26 – September 1, 2024, down from 73,243,800 gallons the previous week. The daily peak water demand occurred on Tuesday, August 27, 2024, when 7,651,000 gallons of water was used. There was 0.00 inches of precipitation during this period. There was an estimated 734,916 gallons of water loss, including one water main break.

CIP Construction

• Wren Avenue and Oriole Boulevard Water Main Replacement I-20 Aerial Crossing
  
  • The final acceptance walkthrough was completed on Friday, August 30. Staff is working with the contractor to close out the project.
  Softwood Drive Sanitary Sewer Aerial Crossing Repair
  
  • The I-Beam has been installed.
  Ten Mile Creek Embankment and Drainage Improvements
  
  • The project will be ready for a pre-final inspection by the end of September.
    
• Oriole ADA Sidewalk Improvements
  
  • The project is nearing completion. The contractor is making progress to finish the project.
  Harrington Park/Ten Mile
  
  • Texas Standard Construction has installed approximately 330 linear feet of 15” sewer mainline and connected to the Trinity River Authority’s line. Bypass pumping is no longer required.

Other Construction

Texas Department of Transportation TxDOT) I-20 Construction Cockrell Hill Road to Hampton Road TxDOT is constructing new service roads and ramps from Cockrell Hill Road in Duncanville to Hampton Road in Dallas, including new bridges across US-67. This project also includes construction by TXDOT of a Texas U-Turn at US 67 and Cockrell Hill Road on the southwest side of the bridge, which is projected to be completed by Fall 2024, barring any unforeseen conditions. The entire project has an estimated completion date of September 2025.

City of Dallas Stormwater Project on Sorcey Road at White Ash – Dallas is working on installing an approved storm sewer.
