Recreation Center

Program Highlight

This week, we are proud to highlight our Pickleball program! Participation numbers vary throughout the week, but we have seen strong and consistent turnout over the past several weeks. The pickleball players create a fun and competitive atmosphere while also doing an excellent job of welcoming new participants. Whether you are brand new to the sport or looking to sharpen your skills, Duncanville Pickleballers are always willing to help newcomers learn the rules and get comfortable on the court. The pickleball community plays a major role in our Recreation Center family, and we are grateful to have them with us four nights each week. If you have never played, you are truly missing out! Come join the community and become a Duncanville Pickleballer.

New Program Updates

HikeHER: This past weekend, HikeHER hosted its first program — and it was a major success! With more than 10 participants in attendance, we are off to a strong start and look forward to building on that momentum. Participants enjoyed a scenic hike at Cedar Ridge Park before returning to the Recreation Center to complete a Wellness Reset session. The event featured a variety of vendors offering services such as massage therapy, healthcare resources, and other wellness-related offerings. The group also gathered in a circle to engage in meaningful discussion centered around women’s health and overall well-being, creating a supportive and empowering environment for everyone involved. We are excited to officially welcome HikeHER to our Recreation Program family and look forward to seeing it continue to grow!

Tai Chi: This Monday, Tai Chi hosted its first class. While we started with three participants, we are confident that as word spreads and marketing efforts continue, the program will grow significantly. The class provided a wonderful balance of fun and calm intensity—participants were smiling and laughing while enjoying a low-impact workout that still worked up a healthy sweat. Tai Chi offers gentle movement that is easy on the body while engaging and stimulating the mind. For adults over 50 looking to get moving, improve balance, and stay active, Tai Chi is an excellent choice. It’s easy on the joints, supports overall wellness, and helps maintain both physical and mental strength. That said, instructor Dr. Hearne recently underwent knee replacement surgery, and we want to ensure he has adequate recovery time. To allow for proper rehabilitation, we will postpone the Tai Chi program. This delay also gives us the opportunity to increase registration in anticipation of an April start.
