City of Duncanville Completes Water Service Line Survey to Meet EPA Mandates

Duncanville, TX – November 13, 2024 – The City of Duncanville has successfully completed a comprehensive survey of the water service lines across the city, fulfilling the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) mandate under the Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR). This survey, conducted in collaboration with expert firms, focused on identifying the materials used in the construction of water service lines, specifically in residential areas.

The survey findings indicate that the water service lines in Duncanville are primarily made from non-lead materials, or the material is classified as currently unknown. Additionally, the city has identified that some homes have service lines installed after the water meter that cannot be definitively categorized at this time. This uncertainty is due to changes made by homeowners over the years or the lack of documentation.

The City of Duncanville is committed to ensuring safe drinking water for all residents. The City is working closely with the EPA and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) to identify funding solutions for replacing any service lines that may be required. This effort aligns with the EPA’s finalization of the Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, which aim to further reduce the risks associated with lead and copper in drinking water systems.

A complete listing of homes identified with either an unknown or non-lead source can now be viewed at www.DuncanvilleTX.gov. Residents are encouraged to visit the site for more detailed information about the survey results, ongoing efforts to identify and assess all service lines, and the steps that will be taken to address any necessary line replacements.

As part of this initiative, Duncanville plans to continue efforts to inventory and assess all water service lines, particularly for homes built before 1988. Contractors will soon be working in neighborhoods to inspect and verify the materials used in service lines, focusing on areas where documentation may be incomplete.

The City encourages residents to remain informed and participate in the ongoing project, which will ensure the accurate identification of service line materials and help prioritize any necessary replacement efforts. If you have concerns or believe your service line material was miscategorized, please reach out to the City of Duncanville’s Public Water System contact, Joel Daugherty, at (972) 780-4932 or via email at [email protected].
